There are many ways of looking at movies, some stays in our mind, some disturbs, some are funny, some has repeat value. I feel this movie is a feel good movie.
As the title says, its about the boy and girl's encounter & the 500 days spent with Summer(name of the girl's character) & her memories . Movie starts with the present day & then jumps to past then and there with a kind of non-linear narration... Thanks to editing. A Series of events happens between them, their first encounter, expectation set by girl before the relationship, times when they are together. & then comes this breakup and repatch attempt by the boy & a clear cut affirmation seen by him that he had already lost her.
Then atlast they both go in their own ways as life moves on!!!
Boy's character is quite a easy going, looking for fun, ambivert. Girl is quite unpredicable, but very clear about her way of seeing life and encounters. We see her as an escapism from committment to any relationships
Nice and fine performances by Joseph Gordon-Levitt & Zooey Deschanel. First half belongs to Zooey, Although not sexy(thas how she is), she is cute. With her eyes she completely controls the mood. Second half belongs to Joseph who faces the after effects of the breakup.
Director needs to be appreciated for his apt casting. Marc Webb takes the movie forward with the chronicles with the climax revealed in the very first scene. some nice dialogues, especially in second half after the break up. Conference scene clearly conveys the state of mind of what Tom hansen(character name of Joseph) is going through.This movie reminds me of Cashback in its way of expressing the mind. This movie has some spectacular & refreshing songs. Good idea of placing songs which suited very well..Probably second time when I watch I can comment on the cinematography.For now I felt it was nice and going with movie's mood.
Few of My favourite scenes that I could recollect:
1) Conference scene where he confronts the ugly truth behind theillusion of the greeting cards
2) Scene in which Tom goes to the party called by Summer which tells the Expected and actual happenings
3) Scene in the park where they both shout p**is word
4) Scene in which Joseph resigns his job
life just happens, its a chance, co-incidence, thas what I feel that Director conveys through his characters.
Pretty good ending touch stating the transition from summer to autumn as life moves on!!!
